How can I control the amount of time my kids spend on the computer?

How can I control the amount of time my kids spend on the computer without fighting about it every moment of the day?

Is there a computer program that could shut it down for certain hours of the day (homework time say 4 - 9)?

You are kidding right??  Who has the control in your house....you or the children?  If you say the computer gets turned off it gets turned off!!!  There is no discussion.  I'm sure they won't be happy but when they know you mean business that will be the end of it.

I love parents who's children are...out of control, cheeky and in general don't respect any one ...the parents blame everyone else....for their childrens misbehavior ....when in fact no bounderies have been set properly at home!  PARENT YOUR KIDS AND THEY WON'T WALK ALL OVER YOU!!!!

The program last week (I think...) on parenting hosted by Jill Hennessey and featured Joe Rich (my fav therapist!) gave a few tips. Maybe you can check out the Cityline site for more info. One thing I do remember is to make a "bored list" of things to do when your child gets bored. The list is created by the child. Then whenever they say they have nothing to do, you tell them to consult their list. Ideas can come up anytime and you can add them to the list. Both Joe Rich and the doctor (I'm sorry but I forget his name) said that it is impossible to eliminate tv and video and computer altogether, but having appropriate times for their use is what you are hoping for.

Thank you DreamJeani for some practical advise.

As for the others - don't be so self righteous.  You assume that my kids are out of control bad kids.  You are wrong.

I believe too much time spent on cell phones and computers is a growing problem in many households today - even for adults.
