    Suggestion for a new host

I imagine if Marilyn's last day is May 23 that Cityline has already picked a new host. If not, I wonder how Liza Fromer would do. I believe that she already has a show of her own on another channel, but maybe she would like to do Cityline.  I know that she was underused on breakfast television. My husband and I stopped watching breakfast televison when she left because the show seemed to try to force itself to be younger and hip to coincide with Dina but it feels forced to us. Liza and Kevin had a more natural rapport going on.

Liza is very bright and was a skillfull interviewer who dealt well with all types of guests and subject matter and she had a sense of humour that did not always refer back to herself.

If Liza is not possible, then I would like to see a host who has a real interest on the topics discussed. Marilyn does an absoloutley fabulous job hosting even though she makes it clear that she does not like to cook, sew, or decorate.

Still, it would be great to have someone who has a great sense of humour and doesn't take things too "martha stewart", but who nevertheless has some knowledge, interest and even some talent in some of the topics at hand.  I am a little bored with the same old that the show is dishing out.

    My two cents, Evalina

Re: Suggestion for a new host

Great suggestion...I had forgotten about Liza.  Did you know we are not supposed to be talking about MDs departure?  A week ago I posted something about this topic and it was deleted 2 hours later.  Then I got an email from City saying that this topic wasn't relevant....and I should go somewhere else to discuss this.  I wonder if we will get our hands slapped for this post??  For some reason Marilyns departure is supposed to be a secret.  Have you noticed that she has not mentioned it on air at all?  Unusual for her since she is so honest and open about everything.  Anyway I look forward to my next email from CITYTV. :)

Re: Suggestion for a new host

I just had a brain wave and thought I'd be the first to suggest this person as the new host of Cityline.  Sadly I will hate to see Marilyn leave but just remembered Liza Fromm from Breakfast Television.  As I anxiously prepared to type my comment, I noticed that you beat me to it.  I think Liza would be a great choice as she is warm, funny and would represent the 'average  person.  Great minds think alike Evalina!!

Re: Suggestion for a new host

I have been thinking of this for quite a while now. I was thinking I'd like to see Anne Mrocsowski. I think Jee Yun Lee or even Dina may be in the running. But I am hoping it is not Dina!

EDIT: It was confirmed last August that Marilyn was leaving CityLine on May 23rd. It says the following on The Toronto Star Website:

Marilyn on the Move: One of the lamentable casualties of the CHUM/City split will be Marilyn Denis's much-loved CityLine. The three-time Gemini winner will naturally go with CTV, CHUM's new owners, given her illustrious 22-year history as the female third of CHUM FM's supreme morning radio team. The Marilyn-less CityLine goes to Rogers as part of their Citytv acquisition, with a replacement host yet to be named. They have until May 23, Marilyn's last day on the job. Not to worry ... the hostess with the mostest will resurface soon with her own CTV show.

How about Liz West? I think she is currently on Maternity leave. Maybe even Samantha Bee or Bonnie MacFarlane? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Suggestion for a new host

I agree that you need to have a Plan B.   I think that one of the ongoing problems with Cityline recently was the showing of endless repeats and lengthy vacations for the host. At this time of year the programme would be going on hiatus until almost Thanksgiving.  At such an important time as "pre Christmas" there would be repeat airings of shows that featured summer gardening and harvest decorations!  I remember these repeats because I often e-mailed to the show to register my complaint. The answer that was given was that the people on the show needed the time off.  O.K.  But did anyone on the show ever hear of pre-taping shows that would be applicable to the current season? All in all the show became "lazy". It was only recently that new guests were introduced. I trust that we have all had our fill of Lynne Spence. I admire the fact that Miss Spence has created a career for herself without any training in her various fields of expertise but enough is enough. When a true talent such as Brian Gluckstein is on the show you know that you are listening to a true professional. ..... Perhaps this move to a larger station on CTV will be much better for Marilyn. I like Marilyn Denis a lot. I just hope that she doesn't drag her old cronies along with her.  Hey Red!

Re: Suggestion for a new host

Marilyn, wish you nothing but good health, happiness and best wishes in your future endeavours.  Have been in your audience 3 times over the years - and been a faithful viewer for over 10years.

I had heard a rumour you were leaving Cityline but could not believe my ears when I heard you say on your Thursday show that Friday, May 23rd was going to be your last day!!!!!

I sat teary eyed throughout the whole show as the regulars showed up modelling and as they wished you well could feel the sincerity....  It truly showed that you were a TV FAMILY......  Nice to finally see your son Adam as well.

I would suggest DINA PUGLIESE from Breakfast Television - her sense of humour reminds me of yours - as the new host of the show.  Come on City give her a try.

Best of luck to you Marilyn and to Cathy (floor director)

Re: Suggestion for a new host

Marilyn would be a very tough act to follow. However, if they MUST, I suggest Dina Pugliese, from Breakfast Television. She's energetic, fun and funny, smart, and could probably hold her own with those experts. Still, she's not Marilyn.

And NO, not Liza Fromer. Pls....

Re: Suggestion for a new host

I agree. I love, love, love Marilyn but if she must leave - and apparently she is - then I think Dina would be a very good choice. She's fast on her feet and very vivacious. Also extremely attractive - she would be awesome on Fashion Friday.

Re: devastated that Marilyn Dennis' run on cityline is finished

Marilyn you deserve a world of credit and respect for the many wonderful years and shows.  Your natural ability, wit and spark are a gift....I agree with your producer...you were in our homes and truly in our hearts - I don't think I realized how attached I was to you and your guests until today...and it feels like losing a best friend.  I have watched since the Dini days...

I recorded your show and watched every evening....and love you, and Ray, Anita, Candace, Mary, Sandra, Lisa, Brian, Michael, Cathy, Lynn and all of the other wonderful friends you brought into our lives.  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU....I know you will continue to be beautiful and successful and do great things....

A devoted fan from London...who wishes I knew before today that this was the last show.

    Michelle

every good wish to you and Adam!
