City TV Winnipeg off air on Star Choice

Oh MY GAWD!!! What ever will I do without City TV Winnpeg's Breakfast television?  I feel like  I have just been separated from my family for ever.  I actually cried this morning to have no John or Jimmy Mac or Brian or any of the crew.

Star Choice removed city TV Winnipeg from my service without notice.  I think someone should complain to the RTC because I  feel this is a form of censorship and  blatant disregard for the folks who have come to rely on the friendly local people delivering the news.  Since we started watching BT  Winnipeg we have found there is more to the Peg than going to the big box outlet stores we have found places to eat , shop and see that we would not have otherwise.

I am going to miss you all  very much.  Somehow just reading the  web site to see what happened is not the same.  We started watching BT after  we noticed the other stations lacked personality and personalization of the stories...

Star Choice is the only satelitte servieci get where I live in rural NW Ontario and I feel like I am being held hostage once agian by BORING BLAND TV.  I hope the  head honchos at City TV take Star Choice to task on this because I watched BT Toronto this morning and I am sorry I can't relate...  Now instead of watching shows like Ugly Betty at 7 pm I have to wait until 10 or 11 pm... so now  I guess I won't be watching that any longer...CENSORSHIP

    Sincerely,

    A fan forever

    Thanks for your support Theresa!

We here at Citytv are also very disappointed with Star Choice's decision.

Both Citytv and the CRTC recommend that complaints be taken directly to Star Choice. You can find all their contact information here: http://www.starchoice.com/english/contactus/default.asp

We will continue to do our best to get this service restored for all our loyal viewers.

Thanks again for watching and all your support!

I complained.  The response I got was they are sorry but due to CRTC they have to carry un popular channels at the expense of other channels.

BELL still offers this channel.  I think I'm going to switch.  I miss John, Jimmie and all the rest.  My kids miss the show.  It's the only channel with this type of programming at this time in the morning.  Tried watching the other networks, just doesn't cut it.  It's like a good friend that's not there anymore.  I don't really want to climb on the roof to change the dish...but I will

I also was very disappointed. I even phoned Starchoice that morning at 7:05am to find out what was going on. They told me I could still watch my local news on other channels, which eveyone who watches news at 7am knows is NOT true. They also told me to email them a letter, which I did. I pretty much got the same reponse about all the other channels they are offering and that I could still watch BT winnipeg with an off air anntena. I hope that everyone who is disappointed writes Starchoice a letter! If Bell is still offering that channel maybe I will switch over also

Re: City TV Winnipeg off air on Star Choice

This following is the contents of the second e-mail sent to Star Choice.  The first was basically blown away with a responce detailing the great programming they have provided to replace CITY TV Winnipeg.  Hopefully more people will write to them @ http://www.starchoice.com/english/contactus/ask_jim.asp  .  Maybe some comments on air would help?

City TV is one of the only stations to offer truly local content which related to Manitobans. The only 2 channels that support Manitoba content, news, weather and sports are CTV Winnipeg 316 & City TV 329.  I am afraid that I cannot relate to the programming offered from Toronto or Edmonton.  If I were making a choice of which channels to bump perhaps removing a radio station or two might be more reasonable.

As far as "You are also still able to receive your local channel off-air.", if we have to receive our TV signals, Off-Air, it leaves a unanswered question of why do we have a Satellite system.  Also it does not help those customers who to not have access to an antenna.

Also you mention, “On May 1, 2008, we have added YTV (Ch. 542 – east and Ch. 543 – west). Also, we have added Teletoon Retro, CMT, Much Music, Game TV, and MTV to the Essentials package over the last 6 months. These new channels will give you more choice in your Essentials package at no extra cost to you!.”  WOW, none are  Manitoba Content and could be deleted without so much as a ripple.  Didn’t know they were added and don’t care.

As for the “, we have added over 20 new HD channels and other unique standard definition services such as Wild TV, Cosmo TV and the newly introduced Super Channel as of May 7th.”  They do not make up for the loss of one local channel.

The decision to remove City TV is enough to revoke service from Star Choice.

Please respond soon, as I understand that Bell offers this programming.

Thank you in advance for restoring our local programming.

PS: I realize that this will be responded to by one of Star Choices clerical support staff and not one of the executives listed above, but hopefully they will be made aware of the dissatisfaction their removal of CITY TV Winnipeg from my service without notice.
