    Need Suggestions for Boring Table

I have just acquired a table/desk. It was nice in its prime but no longer. It is a cherry/mahogany finish with Queen Anne legs (no drawers) however it is in really bad shape and I don't want to strip and refinish it.

I need some ideas on how I can make this piece presentable again with some kind faux finish method.

Other than the rather common faux marble top and solid legs has anyone ever brought back to life an item like this with a clever idea and if so would you please share?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have refinished many pieces of furniture and I wonder if it is just the top that is in bad shape or the legs as well.  Is it warped, gouged or dented, explain the damage, a light sanding & wood filler could be an easy way out, not that I would do that, but if it is slightly damaged perhaps a sanding and a fresh coat of a durable paint. Let me know & I can give you a better idea of an easy fix.

I used a crackle finish paint. Since the legs were fine & it was only the top that was damaged,  I found the crackle finish easy to do and I was happy with the overall effect which cleverly covered the scratches, water marks and fit well with the overall style of piece of furniture.

Great choice, you will enjoy it for years.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I guess I should have been more explicit in my request. There isn't anything wrong with the table except that it is boring. It doesn't need to be fixed as such.  It's in good shape but I would like to do some kind of faux finish or treatment and other than the faux marble which I mentioned, I can't think of anything else.

Thanks very much for this suggestion. It is definitely a possibility I hadn't thought of.

Re: Need Suggestions for Boring Table

I got the impression from your original post that it was in bad shape.

I have been seeing a new trend of the once very common cherry Queen Anne furniture now painted black.

An old classic look with a new twist.

& I have even seen a painted two tone colour finish in a either a leopard or zebra print top. I  have seen others get a custom fitted glass top and have displayed either photos or postcards beneath the glass top. Or you could find a really nice high quality gift wrap paper & or wallpaper and cut and measure it to fit the top.
