Grade 8 prom & where do I start??

I have a beautiful 13 year old Tom boy who is actively into sports and was always adamant that she would never be caught in a dress.

She is a strong independent thinking young female, who loves sports and sticks up for the underdog. To give an idea who she is, she gave a recent speech on gender discrimination in sports. However, she wants to break the stereotype tom girl look and wants to surprise her friends at the Prom and show up with a wow impression.

As a mom to this strong willed girl, where do I start? How do I go from a girl who lives in blue jeans and sweatshirts to tranform her into a Cinderella?? I know I'll need to take baby steps but don't know where to shop to find an outfit that will maintain her youthfulness without looking too old?  Anyway, any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Lisa

Yikes! I have no idea. Back in my time we looked at Fairweather! I'm sure things have changed in 20 years though... For really formal dresses, American Dream in Clarkson Village is worth checking out. You could walk the mall so to speak and scout out a some shops to go back to. Laura, Sears, RW&Co all have formal wear that I have noticed. You may also check out some bridal shops although dresses to order will take 6-8 weeks, but they may be selling samples/floor models. Here is one that I think is really nice for example.

I have been thru this...If your looking for something different (not the usual fairweathers, le chateau stuff) I would go to Queen Street West.  They have some great Boutiques (all price points). Good Luck and have fun shopping!!!
