    Gas Pump Prices

I could not believe what my ears and eyes have heard ...on April 29th there was a brief news announcement stating that Petro Canada has already surpassed last years profit...the announcer said 'Petro Canada  and I am sure there are more...are raping the average consumer!! For people on a fixed income, this has become a major concern!  The never ending increasing prices of gas at the pumps...gas to heat your home, has put a major pressure on the middle class and low income families!  When I opened the newspaper this morning and right on the front page was an article stating..."HUGE OILPATCH PROFITS NOT RESULT OF HIGH GAS PRICES"   The worst part is the average consumer just has to accept these increasing prices!!  I am very confused...oil companies making huge profit increases...but wages are being cut, people being laid off, or have their hours cut way back... I know I don't go anywhere unless I have to...other wise my vehicle stays parked..and most disappointing is , with summer finally coming, our motorhome will definately have to stay parked...it would be just toooooo expensive to go anywhere!  Do the big oil companies care how many families are being affected!!?? ......Brenda from Medicine Hat

Its just another example of how we are getting screwed left, right and center!!!  To make matters worse we all just put up with it because we don't know what else to do???  There should be some sort of worldwide revolt against the oil companies.  Any suggestions???  THE RICH JUST KEEP GETTING RICHER!!!!  The gap between the rich and the struggling middle class just gets worse. We are supposed to be better of than the generation before us but we are not....sadly our children will struggle more than we do.....:(

    Re: Gas Pump Prices

accents, I have been preparing for $1.50/litre gas for probably the past 10 years now. Here's what I did:

    • eliminated all unsecured debt (my family's only debt is the mortgage, and even then we make a fair number of priniciple only payments each year)
    • reduced the size of our family vehicle. I dropped the 1991 Nissan Pathfinder and picked up a 2001 VW Golf (2.0L gas).
    • drive less. The odo on our 2001 Golf just cracked the 75,000 km mark a few months ago. We hardly drive. I take transit and cycle to work each day and my wife is home with the kids.
    • I'm sure there are other little things I've done, but the first 3 bullets are the most significant.
