The branches on my 50 year old 50 foot tall Australian pine are dying. The tree company said I can either remove the entire tree or just prune the branches. The branches over the years have grown very close to the house. Some of the branches hang over the eves and needles block the water flow. I had to have my weeping tiles replaced last year and someone said the damage was caused by the tree roots. However the weeping tile company said this was not the cause. I've been told it could damage the house if it falls. But the tree company said they would not recommend pruning as an option if they thought it would fall. Who to believe?? Cost of removal is $2000, cost of pruning is $340. But cost is not the issue. The tree has sentimental value and I love looking at it. Should I prune or remove? If I prune, how long until it has to be removed?Don't want to prune if I'll have to remove it in a few years. Has anyone had a similar experience and what did you do?? Thank you
